Attention Senior Citizens

If we have a minimum age for driving, why can’t we have a maximum age?

When my mom lived in a senior apartment building several years ago, there was a woman who lived next door to her who used to make meals for her a lot. This neighbor was a very nice woman, very independent, used to do her own shopping and drive her car everywhere…but she in her late 90s. Every time I saw her in her car I was terrified.

  1. I’ve seen 70 and 80-year-olds I’d trust to ride with a lot sooner than some 20 and 30-year-olds. After all, aren’t teenagers statistically the most dangerous drivers?
Even with somewhat slower reflexes, the elderly seem to be more careful and less likely to get caught up in road rage and agressive driving.
I definitely think there should be more detailed tests for drivers once they pass 70, I don’t think there is a definite age at which everyone should automatically have to stop driving. Each of us ages differently.

  2. I just moved down to florida and it is striking how some seniors still are going strong at 80, and some are a menace on the road at 65. They really do need to make seniors start taking driving tests at some point. There is a point where the reflexes go, and just doing everything very slowly is not safe!
