Today in History

Today is a very important day in history, as this video illustrates.

I’ve always wondered what happened to the guy on the street who looks like he wants to help Randall.

  1. Has Decades-TV ever done an ‘Odd Couple’ marathon? They really should. This was one of the great, classic sitcoms of all time that’s underappreciated/overlooked. I can’t imagine such an incredible opening EVER being done today. We live in a time where everything’s all over with——except for the endless CMA shows that are on damn near every single month now!

In 1 minute, 15 seconds they really gave you a great look inside these 2 men’s minds, making you anxious to find out what Felix was going to do this week to drive Oscar crazy, and vice-versa. The jazzy, big brass music was upbeat and fun and went perfectly with the show and the times.

Like The Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart Show openings, this one not only gave you insights into the the character’s personalities, but incorporated showing them out and about away from their apartments and workplaces that filled the gap of the shows themselves rarely (if ever), showing the outside surroundings where the characters would be and interacting with on any given day.

As far as the guy on the street helping Randall goes, that’s hard to say whatever happened to him. What is easy to say, is that the current on/off version of ‘The Odd Couple’ is an unwatchable disaster just like the ‘revived’ ‘Hawaii 5-0’ and ‘MacGyver’. Hopefully it’s off for good, and not just disappearing then reappearing like ‘Rules of Engagement’ and ‘Cougar Town’ did for years on the CBS and ABC prime-time schedules.
